First Amercican stop of EWS

27 juillet 2014

This weekend began the American Enduro World Series adventure in Winter Park - Colorado - USA.
This 3-days, 7-stages race showcased the enduro athletes battling it out the trail system of Trestle bike park and the Fraser Valley.

For our riders (Rémy Absalon and Thomas Lapeyrie), the program was very busy: during 3 days they had to race in the morning and train in the afternoon on the next runs. Many stages were on the bike park. Uplifts were distributed between lift and pedalled. Stages began approximately at 3400m high and finished at the lower in the resort (2700m).
Our riders were a little disappointed by the stages which were very cross-country oriented with a lot of pedalling sections and not many steep parts. The hot weather made the tracks very dry, the opportunity for Rémy and Thomas to test the slick tires and to favour the efficiency.

The first day was difficult for our pilots because of the altitude and the long and flat stages. They had to face the American riders who use to ride this kind of trails. But they finally got better gradually doing some good times during the weekend.
Rémy, getting accustomed to this sort of stages and the height, realized a good 3rd day. He went back up to 24th place.
Thomas Lapeyrie fell in stage 4 and got lost in the last one. He took the 58th place.

"I was apprehensive of racing again here because of the altitude. It was really difficult and even more with this kind of stages, always flat and not very fun. But now, let's go for nice rides in US and a beautiful place for next round: Whistler!" said Rémy Absalon

This round was difficult for all french riders and the ranking is explicit. Jared GRAVES won his second EWS of the 2014 season.
Congratulations to Anne-Caroline CHAUSSON who finished first in women category just ahead of Tracy MOSELEY and Anneke BEERTEN.

Ranking:
1st/ Jared GRAVES - Yeti / Fox Shox Factory - AUS
2nd/ Richie RUDE - Yeti / Fox Shox Factory - USA
3rd/ René WILDHABER - Trek Factory Racing Team - SWI
[...]
24th/ Rémy ABSALON - Scott SR Suntour Enduro Team - FRA
[...]
58th/ Thomas LAPEYRIE - Scott SR Suntour Enduro Team - FRA

But Rémy has more than one string to his bow and brought his floaties with him for the "Intergalactic Pond Crossing". On saturday evening, athletes attempted to cross a narrow track floating across the Village pond: fatest time across won. Rémy was the most skilful player and take the first place.

The next EWS stop will take place in Whistler in 2 weeks with the famous Crankworx.

Keep going!
