Crazy Crankworx adventure!

10 ao?t 2014

The Enduro World Series set up in Canada this weekend to the famous mountain bike festival - Crankworx Whistler.
The season’s penultimate race took in five stages over just one day.
Sunday’s steep, breakable and technical stages were punctuated by tough, physical liaison stages with a lot of climbing requiring riders to manage their fatigue and equipment carefully if they would to do well. It was maybe the hardest race of the season.

During a very long day (10am to 7pm), Rémy Absalon and Thomas Lapeyrie were in the mountains on their own, climbing a total of 36.5km riding transition (2442m elevation gain) - plus the lift chair and gondola- and riding 21.5km of stages (-3116m). They had to manage their fatigue but also deal with carrying their own spares and fix any mechanical problems themselves (no mechanics assistance, only before the last stage).

Rémy began the day in a good shape and realized a great first stage. Unfortunately, he flatted at the beginning of stage 2 and loose many time. He quickly fixed after the finish line. After this, he had nothing to loose and he pushed hard for the last 3 stages.
He finally took the 21th place with smile: epic Crankworx was done!

Thomas felt good during the 3 first stages. Unluckily, he faced mechanicals problem too in stage 4 and was more prudent in the last one to be sure finishing without other difficulties.
Thomas was 40th of the weekend.
